Real Crazy ApartmentSat 11 Feb Real Crazy Apartment £3

Another “we must have back again” bands voted for by you! Real Crazy Apartment, a five piece band hailing from North Wales, Chester and Liverpool began life inspired by the style and power of original British RnB and contempory guitar bands. Their popularity soon grew to the extent that a track entitled 'Four Sided Circles' was included on a European compilation album 'Fever' on Bip Bip records and another early track 'Moving On' used in a documentory about Andy Warhol on American television.

The culmination of this period was an explosive set at London club The Purple Pussycat. This generated so much attention that the band recieved a congratulatory phone call from none other than Jimmy Winston, ex-keyboard player for the Small Faces who's 1967 song 'Real Crazy Apartment' gave the band their name.

Ever evolving, the band continues to refine their style with honest lyrics and addictive melodies whilst maintaining the power and impact exemplified by their blistering live performances ...

Fri 24 Feb Karma + The Children £3

Karma:- Is mysterious British trad rock your thing? Like things that sound a little like Paul Weller’s early solo recordings? Maybe a dash of attitude? Lots of overly husky roaring vocals? Well if that’s the case, you may well be advised to purchase this excellent three track EP. Karma are four men who sound like they’re from the most northern, archetypal steel producing city in England, where the weights of the world rest heavy on their shoulders. There’s no arty titles, eight-minute solos, stupidly out of sync drums, nor are the bands haircuts angled stylishly to one side like some - is that unfortunate? It doesn’t sound it. Karma certainly have sound which is obviously and purposely blatant. Karma have an identity although whether it is their fate to have hordes of oasis-esque blokes chanting Karma from the stadiums will be in their hands, and will have nothing to do with chance.

The Children:- Whilst the media debates New Art Rock vs. Guerrilla Punk Pop or whatever's hip in lofts off Shoreditch High St this week, it takes an iron will not to be remotely influenced by current trends, and talent to do so without sounding rather dated. Fuelled by an organ and (possibly) late nights involving whisky, The Children succeed on both counts. Remember when R'n'B meant rhythm and blues not ring tones and bling? And how good it could be? There are merry-go-round organs, Doors trips and an utterly bizarre segment of Laughing Policeman “ha-ha-ha”s at one point that has some punters looking slightly scared.

Confident crescendos, magnificent melodies and gravel gargled vocals all mix together to create a sound that is both utterly retro and thoroughly now. Look out for them, they'll be coming your way soon. If you are unsure on what we are saying get your arses down to one of their gigs and find out for yourself...,

"Great really good , really really good, i can't believe there not signed, sure it won't be for long" Paul Weller 25/11/2005 Revolution 96.2fm

“One of my favourite bands” - Clint Boon (ex Inspiral carpets)

“Top F------ band" - John Lever ( ex Chameleons)

“So many bands trot out the line that they just enjoy playing their music, but this band clearly do. And I suspect if they were scrawny pale Americans playing exactly the same set they’d already have a six figure contract”. - Cath Aubergine Manchester Music

“Filtering their influences through a particularly Mancunian strain, they've put together less of a demo and more of debut album that nods to the Doors on the opening Labyrinth, runs rough shod over The Kinks in Ink Of the Night, and twists the Happy Mondays into Greetings” - Chris Long BBC GMR

Sat 25 Feb Waking the Witch + Roomthirteen £8 ticket £10 door

Special Offer: Two Advance Tickets for £12

Waking The Witch:

Waking The Witch“…a female Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young”

‘’absolutely gorgeous – the guitar playing and the harmonies are just so beautiful‘’ - JANICE LONG BBC Radio 2

The Leeds–based foursome released ‘Hands and Bridges’ - their eagerly awaited follow-up to their acclaimed debut, ‘Like Everybody’ - on May 16th. Not only is the CD (described by BOB HARRIS as ‘a lovely album’) once more released via their own label, this time there are no other musicians featured – with every note written, sung, and played by the four girls on this self-written and self-produced release.

To say that it has been well received would be an understatement. – rave reviews from both press and radio have been coming in thick and fast, many featuring the recurring theme.

"If Crosby, Stills & Nash had been women, they might have produced this" - Hi-Fi News

Says Patsy Matheson: "When we first started to write and arrange together we knew we had something special. We've all done solo projects before but as a foursome we feel we have more energy, more drive, more creativity – and we certainly have more fun! Waking the Witch is like being part of an extended family, it just feels right."

Conceived in January 2003, PATSY MATHESON, JOOLS PARKER, BECKY MILLS and RACHEL GOODWIN soon made their mark on the northern scene, where their ability to captivate audiences rapidly gained them a devoted following. News of the strength of their live performance spread rapidly, and soon they were appearing at countless venues throughout the U.K.

The launch of their ground breaking debut CD ‘Like Everybody’ in October 2003 produced a wave of excitement throughout the UK acoustic music circuit and by the Spring of 2004, they had completed a national tour as guests of the recently formed super group, Casbah Club (featuring BRUCE FOXTON of THE JAM and members of the Scottish rock group, BIG COUNTRY). During the Summer, they made appearances at many UK festivals. Their appearance at the 2004 Glastonbury Festival was so impressive that it resulted in them being invited to perform at the after show party, as part of a band including GLENN TILBROOK of SQUEEZE.

Throughout 2005 they have toured the length and breath of the UK, where they continued to build on their reputation for putting on an outstanding live show. At Marlborough Festival, they went down so well, that they were the first band to be invited back for a return visit in 2006! The quality of their live performance has also been reflected in the fact that they have been invited to appear live and unplugged on numerous radio shows, including sessions for Radio 2’s JANICE LONG, BBC Radio London’s CHARLIE GILLETT (who liked them so much he invited them back for a second session!) and the legendary DLT! They have recently been included in a TV documentary about the Leeds music scene, alongside other Leeds bands such as THE KAISER CHIEFS, THE MUSIC and CHUMBAWAMBA, and they have also been featured on Yorkshire TV’s Calendar programme.

Waking The Witch are all acclaimed solo artists in their own right, with musical pedigrees to match. Patsy, Rachel and Jools have at one time or another appeared with the likes of CHRISTY MOORE, JOHN MARTYN, MARY COUGHLAN, SAM BROWN and the SAW DOCTORS. But it is as a foursome that they have really made their mark.

All four are respected guitar players, all write songs and all have voices to die for. Together, their voices build from haunting, delicate beauty to an explosion of soaring harmonies. Their melodies are rooted in blues and R&B, rock and folk, and the result is a sound that blends and transcends these genres into something unique and personal.

Their stunning debut album 'Like Everybody' took people by surprise with it’s uniqueness and energy - and similarly, the new release, ‘Hands & Bridges’ radiates womanly zest and attitude, but unlike the first, it features just the voices of four girls and their four accompanying guitars, so the overall sound is more ‘rootsy’, definitely more ‘acoustic’ and a stunning recreation of what the band does live.

Waking the Witch are positive proof that there is plenty of exciting, vibrant new talent. The music industry is not dead, after all.

Room 13"Those girls are very special, aren't they? Arousingly special voices with beautiful vocal harmonies / arrangements that both surprise and stir… They would be amazing to see in concert - particularly in a smallish, intimate theatre or club… My absolute favourites are tracks 1 and 8 - gorgeous!"– Jerry Donahue, June 2005

Think that sums it up quite well!!!
