"Gideon Conn is nothing short of a genius: this is an artist whose music can make you feel things you never thought possible" CONTROLYOURSELF.CO.UK

"Gideon Conn has the sort of astonishing tunes and bewilderingly brilliant stage presence that compels first time viewers to grab their friends/workmates/family members/random passers by and tell them all about the extraordinary event they’ve just witnessed" GIGS-UNLIMITED.CO.UK

"local cult heroes Gideon Conn" AKOUSTIK ANARKHY

"a true artist, a creative, a sensation" THEWONDERWALL.COM

"Running in tandem with his drawing career has been his own songwriting career, and it's one that Manchester music followers will soon be as familiar - and equally mesmerised with the sparkling Londonderry and I Want You Around, are just as likely to tug at your heartstrings as they are to tickle your funny bone." DAVID SUE - MANCHESTER EVENING NEWS

"Weird-ass jazz/hip hop acoustic guitar playing skat." MANCHESTERMUSIC.CO.UK

"this Mancunian legend-to-be is set for Badly Drawn Boy-esque levels of crossover success." GLASSWERK MANCHESTER

"Gideon Conn and his band produce a unique, upbeat sound with a fantastic hip-hop meets folk rock vibe. Think Beck at a jamming session with The Shortwave set. Gideon's lyrics, often rapped, tell of heart-warming and humorous tales and produce laughs without fail. His band variates in size and instruments, sometimes including violin, jew harp and trombone." TerrafolkSat 21 Oct The Lift Global Music Club presents: Terrafolk £8 in advance, £10 on the door
"Terrafolk are a world music group from Slovenia with haircuts that look like an advert for a wig shop. Fortunately their musical ability is far better than their fashion sense. They take the popular image of folk music and twist it on its head. They dominate the room with a mixture of styles from gypsy to classical. If this were not enough they have a playful sense of humour which means each performance is unpredictable. Once you've seen them once you will want to see them again and again.

Of all ex-Yugoslav republics, Slovenia has made least impact on the world music scene. And then in 2003 a band called Terrafolk seemingly appeared from nowhere and walked away with the audience award at the BBC Radio 3 awards for world music. Anyone who was lucky enough to catch them live at one of their triumphant UK dates in 2003 will know that Terrafolk live up to their name.

The Lift logoCentral and South European music played with an attitude to terrorise the complete authentic folk brigade. The instruments may be acoustic but the attitude is pure punk. Up-tempo original and traditional tunes are done with a rip-roaring power worthy of Kennedy, slower ballads come with a cheeky nod and a wink. Everything is respected but nothing is sacred. Brilliant." From Songlines Magazine (Jonathan Walton, Sep/Oct 2004) - www.songlines.co.uk.

Latitude PosterFri 3 Nov Latitude @ The Globe
Our second installation sees Liam Fray and his new band - The Courteneers - bring their highly acclaimed tales of gritty urban love and strife to Latitude. Headlining are St Helens' finest raggle taggle psychedelic country space rockers, The Loungs. They'll be coming on their fun bus so prepare to dance
and have a smile plastered all over your face.

Latitude is a brand new monthly club night based at The Globe, Glossop. The aim of the night is to bring the best live music from the North West of England and beyond and intersperse it with our resident DJs playing the finest music of the last 40 years. Indie, Rock, Pop, Doo Wop, Funk, Crunk, Psychedelic, Country, Jive, Soul - if it's great, we will play it.

Expect three GREAT live bands every month, great music inbetween and late into the night, no bad attitudes, free stuff every month, occasional guest DJs and a great night every time you come. .

We aim to put on the kind of night that you would usually have to travel into Manchester to attend - only it's going to be closer to your house, have better music, be cheaper to get in and have cheaper beer !

What are you waiting for ? There is a track by each artist up on our myspace site:

Sam C LeesFri 3 Nov The Sam C Lees Band (£5)
In 2000, Sam started the band ‘Texas Flood’, with Mark Fitten, Adam Ogiliev, and Neil McCarran .It was a great idea with a great line up, but the band was very strained. Sam had a phase of going up on stage and doing whatever he wanted, just on the spot, leaving the others to think on their feet. He adopted a ‘follow me’ approach. Just as the band had started to establish itself, some members left to work on other projects. That was the end of ‘Texas Flood’. This left Sam to create a new band, with drummer Steve Washington, called the ‘Washington Lees Experiment’. Now Sam has created a new band with Adam Ogiliev as bassist, and Andy Perfect on drums. With this new band comes a new concept. A new way to look at
blues. Samuel’s idea is to bring the aspect of entertainment back into blues.

He feels that so many blues players are stuck in a restraint, and the ‘Samuel C Lees Band’ plans to break the conventions of the genre of Blues. He says how he wants his music to become a ‘roller coaster of emotion’. He wants it to convey sadness and happiness, whilst still being entertaining and enjoyable. It will not be seen as ‘just another blues number’. His new band will be free from all of the constraints that blues hold, “Blues doesn’t have to be so narrow”. This is Sam at his most expressive. Samuel’s main aim is to keep the ‘Samuel C Lees Band’ a family, and make sure that first and foremost, it is an enjoyable experience. He hopes to branch out over Britain and Europe, and get this new sound heard. The blues scene has not moved

in the past 15 years. Samuel says how, “We need players like Doyle Bramell. He has an amazing knowledge of guitar, and yet doesn’t restrict himself. We need to shake it up a bit, you are a vessel to show people feelings that they possibly do not show themselves”. Sam has definitely shaken it up a bit. This is blues at it’s most innovative. This is blues at it’s most entertaining. This is blues straight from the heart. Watch out for the ‘Samuel C Lees Band’.
