Philippa Hanna and Darren PoyzerRecent Gigs Reviewed

There's always the risk that you leave out one or two people, but fearlessly I hope I can do justice the last few gigs with barely but a paragraph or two.

First up is pictured right Philippa Hanna who I shared a gig with in Sheffield recently, along with Swedish trio Baskery. If ever there were contrasting women in music, this was a time when you could see them, all way beyond stereotype and totally fantastic in writing and performance.

Special mention also to Roydan Styles who joined me on guitar for fun shows with The Lancashire Hotpots at the end of last year, four shows that were big on laughs except for Wigan, which was crap really.

It was quite strangely nice to return to the homelands to play The Old Oak in Tinwtistle, and amongst the open mic loveliness recently I've particualarly enjoyed the workings of Nick Holmes, and Rob Metcalfe's duo The Sames.

Absolutely superb and spot-on singer and songwriter, have a listen and make dates for two superb occasions ...

Perosnally I can't wait for the Buxton show ... the Opera House is one of those splendid old theatres, the like that I guess in their day were built for the middle classes, and yet such is their beauty and splendour, you can't help but hope such buildings are preserved for all time for all people.

Fair XaverianPeter Hook promotes our version of Love Will Tear Us Apart

It's a recording that for personal reasons we've kinda kept under wraps, in the feint hope we might sell it somewhere, but it's out of the bag now and why not ... well, after all, none of us can claim writing credits can we!

Here it is then, the acclaimed Poyzer, Fluff and Farrell version of Love Will Tear Us Apart, championed by Hooky himself as a country version!

Bloody Love Songs - it's proper happening at long last!

Bloody Love Songs cd coverThose who've visited the website recently will have noted the studio updates. Yes, after 5 years of substantial writing and recording wilderness, I've finally got the creative zest, the confidence, the surroundings and the opportunity to put some more things 'out there' for general enjoyment and hopefully, appreciation!

The locallity of the recordings is Autumn Rd Studio in Wrexham, where I'm working closely with Nino Errico, who has proved to be an outstanding, dedicated producer and Pro Tools engineer. So far additional contributions courtesy of Matt Thelwell, Rachel Llloyd and Jono Massey have brought some lovely magic to tape, and there's more to come. It's all very wonderful and after an eternity of very little studio activity, it's good to be back in the mix.

For a full and ongoing diary of work in progress, with demo recordings to come and news of release info, promo concerts etc, check out the page at www.poyzer.com/website/bloodylovesongs.htm

Glatonbury wellyGlastonbury? It looks likely ...

Oh I so wanted to confirm this before going to 'press', however as yet an invitation for me to go and do wonderful things at this year's Glastonbury Festival remains unconfirmed, so watch that space and hopefully, some of us will be gathering in a special place this Summer!

Come and Play open mic shows with us ...

I am currently hosting two very special open mic concerts, featuring an excellent selection of songwriters and musicians, in Winsford.

One is at DeBees where the sound system is top rate, the people who attend like to listen and respect the occasion, and this being a proper music venue, it's a big step up from noisy disrespectful pub gigs.

The other is across the road at The Red Lion, where we perform 'un-plugged' and totally acoustic, thus bringing a more intimate and delicate atmosphere.

Of course if you come to play, we do look to share the respect thing, so please, a word ... if you wanna turn up, talk to your mates, play then show no interest in other people, don't bother.

This is not a lot to ask, and because we run the night this way, it's a winner for everyone who participates.
